Six Senses Laamu

  • April - October
  • 204 Guests
  • $400+ pp
  • 5 Star Rating
  • Airport: MLE

Exclusive atoll setting Six Senses Laamu is the only resort in the Laamu Atoll, deep in the Indian Ocean. Just an inter-island plane trip from Malé International Airport and a short boat ride brings you to a place where dolphins swim and you can surf alone. The luxury Maldives resort is a combination of on-land and over-water villas constructed of sustainable materials and set around the palm-fringed paradise.

At several lounges and restaurants our chefs from East and West prepare mouthwatering dishes, many created from produce grown in the island’s organic gardens.

At Six Senses Laamu, Maldives, 97 villas blend in with their surroundings and complement rather than clash with the bounty nature provides on the virgin island of Olhuveli.  All 97 villas offer complete privacy in comfortably luxurious settings. Some sit back from the beach, hidden by the island’s tropical vegetation, and others hover over the lagoon.

During the day, take your pick of tropical adventures, from surfing and kite boarding to swimming, diving, skiing, and snorkeling. And at night, the Chill Bar – built over the water and home to the Maldives’ first mixologist – really comes to life, drawing visiting artists and DJs to a place that has been created from local, sustainable materials and left the lightest footprint possible.

Why

Being the only resort in this atoll the surfers have the break to themselves most of the time. Local Climate

The Maldives have a tropical climate, hot all year round and influenced by the monsoons: the south-west monsoon, from late April to September, it’s stronger in the northern islands, and it’s accompanied by the wind, which can make the sea rough and therefore may discourage activities such as diving, and is also accompanied by higher humidity and more frequent cloudiness. The northeast monsoon, from October to December, it’s quieter and simply brings showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening, especially in the southern atolls around the Six Senses Laamu.
The driest period, outside the monsoons, runs from January to April, and is felt more in the northern atolls.

The temperatures are stable: highs are around 30 °C (86 °F) and lows around 25 °C (77 °F) for most of the year. Relative humidity is high and stable throughout the year as well, around 80%. However, between February and May, there is a slight increase in temperature, and even in the feeling of sultriness, especially in the northern atolls, given that in this period the maximum temperature rises to 31/32 °C (88/90 °F), and the minimum temperature to 26/27 °C (79/81 °F).

The Surf

Being the only resort in this atoll the surfers have the break to themselves most of the time. The best time for surfing is from April to October with the biggest swells likely to occur in June to September.  Yin Yang breaks on the outer reef of the local island Hithadhoo. Six Senses Laamu has boats that will take you on both morning and afternoon trips. There are a couple more fun waves around  further north in the Atoll.

Yin Yang
To the south of Thaa atoll is the smaller and more exposed Laamu atoll. Yin Yang is the most consistent wave in the area, working best under strong SE swell when thick barrels and a powerful inside section can be punishing. The outside section breaks in deep water, and can be an option in NW winds that blow out the inside, but watch out for the bowl. In SW winds, the outside becomes choppy and the inside turns on.
